First night went okay...

Not the worst night, but sleep was sporadic. Pain is rougher and rougher, and he's not thrilled with the oxycodone. And he's not able to take any over-the-counter pain meds, nor cannabis in any form (although Radiation Oncologist says cannabis will be welcome in any form but smoked later on). If it gets too tough, we'll call the Case Manager. Thus far, it is not unbearable.

Bottom line is, it ain't quite easy, but he's doing  well under the circumstances. No evidence of any bleeding, no fever, and pretty much as clear-headed as usual. ❤️

Tough to take all his usual medications. He's using a mix of jello and water to wash those down, one (or cutting into smaller pieces and taking a piece) at a time. Slowly. Mindfully.

And, he keeps getting the hiccups! Which sucks. We actively try to ease those with slow, deep breaths and consciously calm the throat muscles.

He can talk fine, but it wears on his throat, so trying to keep that to a minimum.

Anyway, he's mostly doing well, although it isn't easy yet. I'd suggest short text exchanges rather than calls today. He really needs to rest his throat. And I'm hoping he can sleep some during the day, on and off (me, too? LOL).

Since today is Saturday, I've ordered delivery of more jello and some ice cream and Cream of Wheat. He wasn't interested in jello when we stocked up before surgery, so we only got a little, but he has found jello most soothing, along with Popsicles.

The ice cream we bought before surgery didn't make it to post surgery. And the jello we had is gone already! 😂

I'd go to grocery store myself (he's fine to leave for a half hour or so), but weekends are busy, and I want to minimize exposure to germs and stuff even more than usual right now.

A kinda funny story: I hid the pain meds when I went to bed last night, because his usual meds make him groggy, and I worried he'd take without intention. He woke me at 1:30am for his next dose, which was due. No problem. Then he woke me up an hour later for next dose. Except that was 5 hours too early! He'd read the clock wrong! He was so sorry for waking me up, poor guy.

He was able to go back to sleep. But he was already awake when I got up this morning, which is unusual. He was definitely ready for that next dose! And a Popsicle!

His mood is really good, all things considered.

And he's snoozing in his chair right now... 🥰

  2. Thank you so much, whoever you are! It's so annoying that only "gmail" accounts show who is commenting. But I appreciate the support and warm thoughts from Anonymous, too!

    2. He actually got thru the night without pain meds! Although I think he may have taken an extra sleep medication in error. He's very groggy and feeble this morning. He was hungry and ate some Cream of Wheat (lukewarm, since he's not supposed to eat anything hot), and now he's asleep in his chair. So far no big issues, no fever or evidence of bleeding. All in all, doing okay. Tomorrow morning we will learn results from the biopsies taken during surgery.
