Hey! Sorry for no recent updates. It has been a hard week. Neither of us was really prepared for the extended impact of the side effects, although we should have known.
The burning in his mouth and pain in his throat was bad, and it made eating even more difficult. Perhaps it felt that way because, with treatment finally ended, we expected some immediate relief... Regardless, it has been hard.
Instead of feeling better, Biff became extremely weak, especially by the end of each day. He fell 3 times, which was very scary, but luckily no serious injury or problems.
Happily, he seems to be doing better the last couple of days. Last Friday I wouldn't let him walk on his own even to the bathroom, and he'd been needing the cane - today he's getting around on his own, without the cane even, although he still has to take it easy while his strength builds back up.
He's managing to eat better and getting at least 2 Ensures in each day no matter what he manages to eat.
Interesting: his desire for food is growing - but he still has taste issues and still has burning in his mouth... So for now, it's an unsatisfied longing. We've tried a couple things, but the disappointment when he still can't taste it, or can't make himself eat much of it, is so frustrating. 🤬🤬🤬
So, the good news is, it seems he is finally showing signs of recovery!
This is a marathon, a long, slow slog along a strange and difficult road. For now, we are focusing on slow, small steps forward and noting the positive changes every chance we get.
I look forward to a solid, good night's sleep someday. He's sleeping pretty well these last few nights. I'm sleeping "on alert" still, which isn't too restful. LOL I've been taking afternoon rest/naps as best I can.
And we keep on keeping on...
